A few weeks ago my husband brought home a rooster Halloween costume for our dog. I can't stress to you how out-of-character this is for him. While he loves our little dog, I wouldn't say he is the kind of person who pampers his pet. That being said, he apparently thought it would be funny to torment the dog by teaching her how to wear this dumb rooster's hat. What we found, was that with enough treats around, she didn't even notice the costume. Somehow, this has all evolved into our dog Sally joining me on television. Thank you to everyone who joined us at Homemakers for their trick-or-treat event. We are estimating that around 1,500 kids came through the treat stations in the two hours we were there! I was amazed at some of the creativity we saw from kids and parents in the costumes. Check out our photo gallery to see pictures from the event.

The downpour this morning makes me very thankful that our Halloween trick-or-treat event tonight is indoors. When you join us tonight at Homemakers Furniture in Urbandale, you will be warm and dry as your kids get to celebrate Halloween...not a promise we can make about the weather tomorrow night. Join me between 5p and 7p for this very fun evening. Don't forget, in addition to candy and toys, we will be giving out comic books from Jay's CD and Hobby to the first 500 kids through the door. For those of you who have been skeptical, there isn't a better time to check out our new show The Vampire Diaries, than during the week of Halloween. To help you get caught up, we are running a special encore episode tonight at 8p. This encore episode will help you get ready for what looks like an amazing Halloween episode tomorrow night at 7p.

The Vampire Diaries is very well done. The show has just enough love interest for female viewers like me, while focusing primarily on the action and suspense true lovers of vampire stories search for. During a special episode tomorrow night, the show will take viewers back through the history of the town and the conception of the relationship between witches and vampires within this small town.

If you are looking forward to having a quiet weekend, make sure you plan to spend some TV with your kids on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. This may be the perfect weekend to make apple cider and popcorn while you enjoy movie titles like Chicken Little, Harriet the Spy, and Aquamarina. So you've probably seen our promos for The Office running on-air. What you don't know, is that the production team on the project has found that the more we promote the show, the more our office reminds us of the show. It could easily be a result of all of us watching the show every night and texting one another about it. If you and your office friends are experiencing the same scenario, we want to hear from you. Tell us about your office, the people in it, and the event that transpire. As you read in Emily's blog on Tuesday, you simply need to register and hope that our viewers pick your story. If you get your coworkers help in voting, it may improve your chances of winning a Subway sandwich party at your office.

For the fourth fall in a row, KCWI has teamed up with DMACC to promote the annual Winter Warm Coat Drive. Time is winding down for you to make a donation though, so we encourage you check out the Winter Warmth Coat Drive to find all of the donation sites. The last month has shown those new to the area that Iowa winters can get very cold. It also helped to emphasis to those of us who have lived here our entire lives how important it is to have appropriate attire. You can help Central Iowa families by donating your new or slightly used coats to the drive. If you plan on organizing your family's coat closet this weekend, please set aside everything that you no longer use for the Winter Warmth Coat Drive.

I am so excited about our upcoming trick-or-treat night at Homemakers! A few years ago we hosted the first one and were amazed at how many people took advantage of the event. To be honest, I had prepared for a couple hundred people and was grossly under prepared because of it. We actually had to keep sending people out to buy more candy throughout the event because we kept running out. In fact, we sold most of the stores surrounding Homemakers out of their Halloween candy.

After a break from the event because of Homemakers construction we are anxious to see everyone that comes out to the store on Thursday between 5-7p. It is our hope that families across Central Iowa will take advantage of this free event to create lasting Halloween memories with their families in the warm and safe environment Homemakers can provide!
