Most people think that KCWI is owned by The CW Television Network, but that is not correct. KCWI is owned by Pappas Telecasting Companies, based in Visalia, California. Pappas Telecasting is the largest privately-held, commercial television broadcast group in the United States in terms of U.S. Household coverage as defined by Nielsen Media Research. KCWI was "born" on the air January 20th, 2001, as KPWB and broadcasts from the area's tallest tower located near Alleman, Iowa.
KDMI was the first digital-only television station to broadcasts out of Des Moines, Iowa. KDMI was "born" on August 28, 2006 as a My Network affiliate and America One programming continuing at all other times on channel 56.1. KDMI now broadcasts on channel 19.1 and channel 20 on Mediacom as a THIS Network Affiliate with movies running almost continually throughout the day. Pappas Telecasting owns KDMI and carries its sister station KCWI on 23.1.

Pappas Telecasting subscribes to the "Four P's" philosophy for success in television broadcasting. The "Four P's" include People, Power, Programming, and Promotion. By hiring the best people; operating stations with optimum power, and providing the best programming and marketing them with creative promotion and community service, Pappas stations are among the most successful in the nation.
