    On This Date in Iowa Weather History (courtesy of the NWS): 1987: A blizzard moved from southern Nebraska into western and southwestern Iowa on March 28th and persisted into the 29th. Storm total snowfall amounts included 10.0 inches at Red Oak, 11.0 inches at Audubon and Sac City, 12.0 inches at Castana, Oakland, Pocahontas, and Sidney, 15.0 inches at Denison, 15.2 inches at Onawa, and 16.0 inches at Logan. Strong winds of 30 to 50 mph, gusting to as high as 68 mph at Carroll, created white out conditions and blew the snow into drifts of 8 to 15 feet, with some as deep as 20 feet reported. Unseasonably cold air moved into Iowa behind the storm and by the morning of the 30th temperatures bottomed out in the single digits across northern, central, and western portions of the state, including reported lows of 7 F at Glenwood and Sac City, 6 F at Fort Dodge, and 5 F at Guthrie Center, Onawa, and Red Oak.

    1977: An intense low pressure system produced a minimum pressure reading of 28.70 inches at Des Moines which remains the all time record at that location.
