    On This Date in Iowa Weather History (courtesy of the NWS): 1989: A complex of severe thunderstorms swept in from Nebraska in the morning and produced severe straight-line winds as it traversed Iowa. The worst damage occurred in Carroll, Greene, Dallas and Boone counties where wind gusts in excess of 80 mph were reported at many locations. The storm struck Carroll and Greene counties around sunrise producing tens of millions of dollars in crop damage and injuring 4 people when their van blew over and rolled on Highway 30 near Arcadia. A wind gust of 85 mph was recorded at the Carroll airport and a gust to 102 mph was recorded at Jefferson.
